TAKE CARE OF YOUR GARMENTS TO MAKE THEM LAST A LONG TIME!

The label is a veritable identity card for the products and, in addition to the brand name, indicates the composition of the fabric and how to care for it.

By learning how to read labels you will be able to maintain the original appearance of the garments you buy for longer. Forpen has created a mini guide for you with the main symbols you need to know.

First, however, we advise you to:

  • Wash and dry garments inside out;
  • Wash the garment individually if it has color contrasts;
  • Remove removable parts before washing;
  • Do not iron or rub decorations and prints;
  • Wash delicate or leather garments only at specialized laundries.

Labels on fabrics usually have 5 symbols indicating how to treat the garment; some specifications on professional washing and bleaching can also be found.

WASH

The first symbol always refers to the recommended washing and temperature to avoid damaging the garment. The number you see indicates the recommended temperature degrees and you will find it marked inside a small bowl. If the basin is barred, it means that the garment cannot be washed at home, but must be treated in a laundry with professional products. If, on the other hand, you see the “hand” symbol inside the bowl, you can use the hand-washing program on the washing machine.

THE CANDLE.

You will find the triangle symbol on the labels of garments that can be subjected to bleaching. Remember that bleach is contained in most washing powders and causes stains to disappear from light-colored garments, but beware: not all garments can be treated with bleach–if an X is placed on the triangle, do not bleach!

DRYING.

To understand how to dry a garment you need to refer to the “square” symbol. If it has a large black circle inside, it is not recommended to use the dryer. On the other hand, if the circle is “empty,” you can use the dryer and the small dots inside will indicate the degree of temperature-the more they are, the higher the temperature. Be careful, however, it can indeed happen that at high temperatures the fibers shrink.

IRONING

The iron symbol is the most intuitive and not only indicates whether the garment can be ironed or not, but also at what temperature. The greater the number of pellets, the higher the temperature at which it can be stretched. Remember that the most delicate garments are those with synthetic fibers or blended fabrics, while cotton and linen are the most durable.

DRY CLEANING

Symbols for professional or dry cleaning are usually indicated with a circle and a letter. The letters indicate the type of solvent most suitable for washing the garment. We recommend that you do not wash the garment at home, but go to a professional laundry to avoid damaging it.
